WARRIOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH WIN

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College basketball team opened the 2003-2004 season by competing in the Pepsi/Weis Market Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna University, Saturday evening. The Warriors withstood a furious second-half comeback to defeat Rutgers-Camden 80-79 and advance to the championship game of the tournament.

Lycoming scored the game’s first point and never trailed in the first half, carrying a 41-32 advantage into the locker room. In the second half, the Warriors stretched their lead to as large as 18 points with 11 minutes to play. The Scarlet Raptors, however, outscored Lycoming 34-15 over the next 10 minutes to take their only lead of the game – 77-76 with 47 seconds to play. The Warriors were able to hang on, however, as Mindy Culp (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) and Emily DiMarco (Sr./Voorhees, Pa.; Eastern) each connected on two free-throws in the final minute.

Culp came off the bench to lead Lycoming in scoring with 20 points. Stacy Lindeman (So./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) added 16 points and seven rebounds. Danielle Kern (So./Lehman, Pa.; Lake-Lehman) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds while adding 13 points. DiMarco led the team with six assists and scored eight points.

The Scarlet Raptors were led by Megan Rulon with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

The Warriors will play in the championship game of the tournament at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
