WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH WIN
SELINSGROVE,
Pa. – The Lycoming College basketball team opened the 2003-2004
season by competing in the Pepsi/Weis Market Tip-Off Tournament at
Susquehanna University, Saturday evening. The Warriors withstood a
furious second-half comeback to defeat Rutgers-Camden 80-79 and
advance to the championship game of the tournament.
Lycoming
scored the game’s first point and never trailed in the first
half, carrying a 41-32 advantage into the locker room. In the
second half, the Warriors stretched their lead to as large as 18
points with 11 minutes to play. The Scarlet Raptors, however,
outscored Lycoming 34-15 over the next 10 minutes to take their
only lead of the game – 77-76 with 47 seconds to play. The
Warriors were able to hang on, however, as Mindy Culp (Jr./New
Columbia, Pa.; Milton) and Emily DiMarco (Sr./Voorhees,
Pa.; Eastern) each connected on two free-throws in the final
minute.
Culp
came off the bench to lead Lycoming in scoring with 20 points. Stacy
Lindeman (So./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) added 16 points and
seven rebounds. Danielle Kern (So./Lehman, Pa.; Lake-Lehman)
pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds while adding 13 points.
DiMarco led the team with six assists and scored eight points.
The
Scarlet Raptors were led by Megan Rulon with 21 points and 13
rebounds.
The
Warriors will play in the championship game of the tournament at 3
p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
