LYCOMING WOMEN’S HOOPS PICKS UP KEY WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team traveled to Delaware Valley College, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference contest. The Warriors opened the game with a 12-0 run and held the lead for the rest of the game, eventually defeating the Aggies 68-61. Lycoming improves to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Delaware Valley drops to 7-11 and 2-6.

The Warriors opened the contest with a Sabrina Catrambone (Fr./Birchrunville, PA; Springfield) lay-up, an Amy Herschman (So./Northampton, PA; Northampton) free throw and a Mindy Culp (So./New Columbia, PA Milton) 3-pointer for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Warriors doubled that as Emily DiMarco (Jr./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) hit back-to-back 3-pointers.

The Aggies tried to climb back into the game in the first half, but Lycoming had an answer each time and took a 38-27 lead into the intermission.

Delaware Valley opened the second stanza with eight straight points, including five by Bridget Golden, to pull to within two, 38-36, with 15:28 to go. However, the Aggies were never able to gain the lead in the half. Late in the game, Culp hit six free throws to clinch the win for the Warriors.

Culp and DiMarco finished with 17 points apiece to pace the Lycoming. Lyndy LeVan (Sr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) came off the bench to notch 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Golden led all players with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Amber Smolinsky, the conference’s leading scorer at more than 19 points per game, was held to just eight points – all in the second half.

The Warriors return home for their next contest, hosting Wilkes University on Wednesday, February 5. Tip-off for the game is set for 6 p.m.
