WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATED BY SCRANTON
SCRANTON, PA –
The Lycoming College women’s basketball team traveled to the
University of Scranton, Tuesday evening, for a Freedom Conference
contest. The Lady Royals showed why they are ranked 12th
in the nation cruising to a 64-46 victory over the Warriors.
Lycoming falls to 10-13 overall and 5-8 in the conference with the
loss. Scranton improves to 21-3 and 10-3.
Both
teams played solid defense to start the game as neither offense
could score a point in the first 2:30. The Royals were the first
to break through when AnneMarie Russo made a lay-up at the 17:28
mark. Scranton would go on to score 32 first-half points while
holding the Warriors to a season-low 14 points in the period.
In
the second half, Lycoming played the Royals even but could not cut
their deficit.
Mindy
Culp (So./New Columbia, PA; Milton)
led the Warriors with 17 points – 15 coming in the second half. Lyndy
LeVan (Sr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) added
seven points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench. Michelle
Stine (So./Mill Hall, PA; Central Mountain) led the squad with
four assists.
Kate
Pierangeli was Scranton’s leading scorer with 12 markers. Tara
Gemmel added 11 points and Russo chipped in 10.
Lycoming
will complete the regular season on Saturday, with a trip to
DeSales University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. The Warriors will be
looking to hang on to the fourth and final playoff spot as they
take on the Bulldogs, ranked eighth in the nation.
