WARRIOR
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WASTES LATE LEAD
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s basketball team returned to
conference competition, Wednesday night, playing host to Drew
University. The Warriors squandered a 19-point, second-half lead
as the Rangers came storming back to shock the home team 68-58.
Lycoming drops to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom Conference
with the loss. Drew improves to 8-4 and 1-2.
The Rangers got
out of the gate first outscoring the Warriors 10-5 in the opening
minutes and then maintaining a five-point cushion for much of the
half. Lycoming, however, responded with a 12-2 run over the final
six minutes of the period to take a 25-20 lead into the locker
room.
The Warriors
kept the momentum to start the second half, holding Drew to just
four points in the first seven minutes as they built a 43-24 lead
with 13:11 to play. This time it was the Rangers who responded.
Drew hit their next 11 shots from the field and went 7-of-8 from
the free-throw line over the next 10 minutes to take a 56-53 lead.
They would never trail again. Lycoming attempted to come back,
pulling within one with 2:35 to play, but a three-pointer by Sarah
Marquez sealed the victory for the Rangers.
Lyndy LeVan
(Sr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport)
and Emily DiMarco (Jr./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) both returned
to the lineup, Wednesday evening, and led the Warriors with 12
points each. Michelle Stine (So./Mill Hall, PA; Central
Mountain) added seven points and a game-high seven rebounds.
Sarah Marquez
led Drew with 22 points, including 16 in the second half. Lauren
Aliano added 14 markers and four assists.
Lycoming
