WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball
team hosted Juniata College, Wednesday evening, for a
non-conference contest. The Warriors snapped a four-game
losing skid with a 64-61 win over the Eagles. Lycoming
improves to 2-5 overall, while Juniata falls to 2-4.
The
Eagles controlled the action for much of the first period,
leading by as many as eight points at one point. The
Warriors, however, kept hanging around and went into the
half trailing by four at 29-33.
In the
second half, Juniata again built an eight-point lead and
maintained a 56-51 advantage with seven minutes to play. But
Lycoming continued to chip away and a jumper by Mindy
Culp (Sr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) with 3:08 remaining
gave the home team their first lead since early in the game.
The Eagles responded with a bucket of their own to regain
the lead, but Stacy Lindeman (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.;
Whitehall) put the Warriors ahead for good hitting a
jumper with 1:03 left. Culp added a pair of free throws to
seal the three-point victory.
Lindeman
was Lycoming’s leading scorer with 14 points. Culp added 13
markers and four assists. Danielle Kern (Jr./Lehman, Pa.;
Lake-Lehman) contributed 10 points and a team-high nine
rebounds.
Kristen
Kirk (Jr./Newport, Pa.; Newport)
led Juniata with 20 points and four assists. Jess
Winemiller (Fr./York, Pa.; Dallastown) and Katie
O’Brien (Jr./Hanover, Pa.; South Western) each added 14
points. O’Brien also led all players with 11 rebounds.
The
Warriors will play again on Saturday, December 11, when they
travel to Penn State-Altoona. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
