WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team put their five-game
winning streak on the line against 21st ranked
DeSales University, Wednesday evening. The Warriors gave the
Bulldogs all they could handle but could not pull off the upset
as DeSales pulled away late for a 59-48 victory. Lycoming falls
to 11-6 overall and 3-3 within the conference. The Bulldogs
improve to 13-3 and 4-2.
The Warriors
played well early, using stifling defense to build a 15-9 lead
midway through the first period. DeSales, however, ran off seven
straight points to take their first lead of the game; and
following a three-pointer by Lycoming, went on a 10-0 run to
open up an eight point advantage. The Warriors were able to pull
with 24-28 at the half.
In the second
half, the Warriors kept the defensive pressure on holding the
Bulldogs to just three points in the first eight minutes of the
period. The 9-3 run gave Lycoming a 33-31 lead with 12:08 to
play. But the upset was not meant to be as DeSales solved the
Warrior defense and outscored the home team 28-15 over the
remainder of the game to pull away for a double-digit victory.
Senior
Emily DiMarco (Voorhees, N.J.; Eastern) led Lycoming with 13
points and five steals in the game. Rebecca Pugh (So./Pine
Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove) added eight points and Amy
Herschman (Jr./Northampton, Pa.; Northampton) chipped in
seven points. Danielle Kern (So./Lehman, Pa.; Lake-Lehman)
was the game’s leading rebounder with seven boards.
The Bulldogs’
Alyssa Antolick led all players with 20 points. Jen Netwall and
Holly Liebl each added 10 markers for DeSales.
Both teams are
in action again on Saturday, January 31. Lycoming will travel to
Drew University and DeSales will travel to Wilkes University. |
