WARRIOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL USES
SECOND HALF COMEBACK TO TOP SUSQUEHANNA
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team took a break from
conference competition, Monday evening, to host regional rival
Susquehanna University. The Warriors came back from a 10-point
second half deficit to defeat the Crusaders, 59-46. Lycoming
improves to 11-5 overall by winning their fifth consecutive
game. Susquehanna falls to 4-13 with the eighth straight loss.
The two teams
played even through the first eight minutes of the contest
before the Crusaders used a 9-0 run to open up an eight-point
lead midway through the period. Susquehanna would stretch their
advantage as high as 14 before the Warriors ended the half with
six unanswered points to pull within 33-25.
Lycoming
quickly cut their deficit to four to start the second half, but
the Crusaders kept their composure and regained a 10-point lead
with 12:35 to play in the game. The Warriors, however,
controlled the rest of the game limiting Susquehanna to just one
field goal and one free-throw over the final 12 minutes. The
26-3 run was sparked by consecutive three-pointers by Amy
Kile (So./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy) and ended with a 13-point
victory for Lycoming.
Kile was the
game’s leading scorer with 14 points. She also led the Warriors
with seven rebounds. Katy Kresge (Sr./Lehighton, Pa.; Marian
Catholic) added 11 points, while Emily DiMarco
(Sr./Voorhees, N.J.; Eastern) and Stacey Lindeman
(So./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) each chipped in eight
markers.
The Crusaders
were led by Jenn Evans (Fr./Mahanoy City, Pa.; Mahanoy Area)
with 11 points and Andrea Carlson (Jr./Downingtown, Pa.;
Downingtown) with 10 points. Ang Letcavage (Jr./Kulpmont,
Pa.; Mount Carmel) added eight points and a game-high 10
rebounds.
Lycoming was
out-rebounded 44-36 but forced 27 turnovers in the game,
including 18 in the second half. The Warriors sealed the victory
by connecting on 88% (12-of-14) from the free throw line in the
second period.
Lycoming will
be at home again for their next contest, hosting Freedom
Conference rival DeSales University, Wednesday, January 28.
