WARRIOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL USES SECOND HALF COMEBACK TO TOP SUSQUEHANNA

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team took a break from conference competition, Monday evening, to host regional rival Susquehanna University. The Warriors came back from a 10-point second half deficit to defeat the Crusaders, 59-46. Lycoming improves to 11-5 overall by winning their fifth consecutive game. Susquehanna falls to 4-13 with the eighth straight loss.

The two teams played even through the first eight minutes of the contest before the Crusaders used a 9-0 run to open up an eight-point lead midway through the period. Susquehanna would stretch their advantage as high as 14 before the Warriors ended the half with six unanswered points to pull within 33-25.

Lycoming quickly cut their deficit to four to start the second half, but the Crusaders kept their composure and regained a 10-point lead with 12:35 to play in the game. The Warriors, however, controlled the rest of the game limiting Susquehanna to just one field goal and one free-throw over the final 12 minutes. The 26-3 run was sparked by consecutive three-pointers by Amy Kile (So./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy) and ended with a 13-point victory for Lycoming.

Kile was the game’s leading scorer with 14 points. She also led the Warriors with seven rebounds. Katy Kresge (Sr./Lehighton, Pa.; Marian Catholic) added 11 points, while Emily DiMarco (Sr./Voorhees, N.J.; Eastern) and Stacey Lindeman (So./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) each chipped in eight markers.

The Crusaders were led by Jenn Evans (Fr./Mahanoy City, Pa.; Mahanoy Area) with 11 points and Andrea Carlson (Jr./Downingtown, Pa.; Downingtown) with 10 points. Ang Letcavage (Jr./Kulpmont, Pa.; Mount Carmel) added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Lycoming was out-rebounded 44-36 but forced 27 turnovers in the game, including 18 in the second half. The Warriors sealed the victory by connecting on 88% (12-of-14) from the free throw line in the second period.

Lycoming will be at home again for their next contest, hosting Freedom Conference rival DeSales University, Wednesday, January 28. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
