LYCOMING WOMEN’S BASKETBALL KEEPS PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH WIN AT WILKES

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team traveled to Wilkes University, Tuesday evening, for a conference tilt. The Warriors weathered a second-half comeback by the Lady Colonels to hang on for a 61-55 victory. The crucial win keeps Lycoming within striking distance for a berth in the Freedom Conference playoffs. The Warriors are now 14-9 overall and 6-6 versus conference competition. Wilkes falls to 2-20 and 1-11.

Sophomore Danielle Kern (Lehman, Pa.; Lake-Lehman) registered a double-double for Lycoming with 14 points and 10 boards. Mindy Culp (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, including four off the offensive glass. Amy Herschman (Jr./Northampton, Pa.;Northampton) played strong on the block with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Rebecca Pugh (So./Pine Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove) provided a spark off the bench with eight markers.  

The Warriors raced out to an early 37-28 lead at halftime and held on despite shooting only 21.2% in the second half.

Wilkes was led by Andrea DeMaranville with 20 points and eight rebounds. 

Lycoming’s next game is at home on Thursday, February 19, at 6 p.m. versus Drew University for a Freedom Conference makeup game.
