LYCOMING
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS SHORT IN UPSET BID
WILKES-BARRE,
PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team traveled to
King’s College, Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference
contest. The Warriors played even with the Monarchs, currently
ranked third in the nation, for a half but could not quite pull
the upset falling 61-54. Lycoming’s record drops to 9-13 overall
and 6-6 within the conference with the loss. King’s improves to
20-2 and 10-2.
The Monarchs
tried to assert themselves early, leading by as many as eight
midway through the first period, but a late rally by the Warriors
tied the game at 27-27 heading into the locker rooms. An 11-2 run
to start the second period put King’s ahead by nine, but again
Lycoming fought back to tie the game at 46-46 and eventually take
a 54-52 lead with 2:34 to play in the game. The Monarchs, however,
controlled the final two minutes scoring nine points while holding
the Warriors scoreless to claim the 61-54 victory.
Lyndy LeVan
(Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport)
led Lycoming’s offense with 13 points. She also grabbed six
rebounds. Emily DiMarco (So./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) added
12 points and led the team with eight rebounds. Katie Santo
(Sr./Scotch Plains, NJ; Union Catholic) chipped in nine
markers and Laurie Scherer (Sr./Mahanoy City, PA; Mahanoy City)
chipped in eight.
The Warriors
will return home for their next game, hosting the University of
Scranton on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Lamade
