WARRIOR WOMEN WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE GAME ON HARDWOOD

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted Drew University in the opening game of a Freedom Conference doubleheader, Wednesday evening. The Warriors maintained an eight-point halftime lead to secure a 74-65 victory over the Rangers. The win was Lycoming’s fourth consecutive versus conference opponents and improves their record to 9-12 overall and 6-5 within the Freedom. Drew falls to 11-11 and 4-7 with the loss.

The Warriors hit the first two baskets of the game and slowly built their lead to seven, six minutes into the contest. Drew fought back to within one midway through the period, but a 14-3 run gave Lycoming a 12-point advantage and control heading into the half.

In the second half, the Warriors continued to extend their lead to as many as 20 with just under eight minutes to play. The Rangers showed some signs of life with a 12-0 run to pull within eight, but it was not enough as Lycoming hung on for the nine-point win.

Katie Santo (Sr./Scotch Plains, NJ; Union Catholic) led the team in scoring with 16 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Santo also led the squad with five assists. Laurie Scherer (Sr./Mahanoy City, PA; Mahanoy City) added 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots. Tara Stepanchick (Sr./Lavelle, PA; North Schuylkill) was the Warriors’ top rebounder with nine boards. She also scored 11 points and recorded four assists. Lyndy LeVan (Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) and Emily DiMarco (So./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) each chipped in 10 points to give Lycoming five players in double figures.

The Warriors will travel to King’s College on Saturday for another Freedom Conference doubleheader. Tip-off for the contest is at 2 p.m.
