WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PICKS UP CONFERENCE WIN AT HOME
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted
Delaware Valley College, Saturday afternoon, in the opening game
of a Freedom Conference doubleheader. The Warriors hung on to a
four-point halftime lead to defeat the Aggies, 59-56. Lycoming
improves to 6-11 overall and 3-5 within the conference with the
win. Delaware Valley falls to 11-8 and 4-4.
The Warriors
set the tone for the game early, pulling out to an 8-0 lead in the
first five minutes of the contest. Their lead grew to as much as
12 before the Aggies whittled it back down to four at the half.
Delaware Valley continued to chip away in the early part of the
second period, eventually pulling even at 34-34 and then taking
their first lead of the game at 43-41 with 8:28 to play. Lycoming
responded, however, with a 9-0 run to regain a seven-point edge.
The lead proved to be enough, as Delaware Valley could not convert
on three attempts to tie the game in the final 20 seconds, giving
the Warriors the 59-56 victory.
Emily
DiMarco (So./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern)
and Amy Lesko (Sr./Mountain Top, PA; Crestwood) each scored
13 points to lead the team. Lyndy Levan (Jr./South
Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) added eight points while
pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman Michelle Stine
(Mill Hall, PA; Central Mountain) led the squad with four
assists.
Lycoming
will travel to Wilkes University on Wednesday, January 30, for
their next game. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. for the first game of a
doubleheader with the men’s teams.
