WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO STATEN ISLAND IN OPENING ROUND OF
MARRIOT COUGAR CLASSIC
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s basketball team opened up the
2002-2003 season at the Marriot Cougar Classic hosted by Kean
College, Saturday afternoon. The Warriors came up short in the
opening round of action versus the College of Staten Island,
falling 66-60.
Lycoming jumped
out to a 12-5 lead in the early going, but the Dolphins chipped
away at the deficit finally overtaking the Warriors midway through
the first half. Lycoming outscored Staten Island in the second
half, but it was not enough to overcome an eight-point halftime
deficit.
Lyndy LeVan
(Sr./Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport)
led all scorers with 27 points in the contest. She also pulled
down a team-high 11 rebounds. Junior Emily DiMarco (Voorhees,
NJ; Eastern) added 12 points and nine rebounds. Michelle
Stine (So./Mill Hall, PA; Central Mountain) led the squad with
four assists.
The
Warriors will open up their home schedule on Tuesday, November 26,
when they host College Misericordia at 6 p.m. Admission to the
game is free to fans who bring a non-perishable food item to
donate to the United Churches Food Bank.
