WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ENDS SEASON WITH TOUGH LOSS AT HOME
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted
DeSales University, Saturday afternoon, for their season finale.
The Warriors continued their late season run at the top teams in
the Freedom Conference, but came up short of the Bulldogs, falling
65-61. Lycoming ends the 2001-2002 campaign with an overall mark
of 9-15 and a conference record of 6-8. DeSales ends the regular
season with a mark of 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the conference.
The Warriors
jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game and
hung on for a one-point advantage going into the half. A 9-2 run
in the early part of the second half gave the Bulldogs a four
point lead that they more or less maintained until the final five
minutes. Lycoming made a push down the stretch, tying the game at
61-61 with 50 seconds to play, but DeSales tallied the final four
points of the contest to claim the victory.
Katie
Santo (Sr./Scotch Plains, NJ; Union Catholic)
led the Warriors with 17 points in the game. Lyndy LeVan
(Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) also reached
double figures in scoring with 11 markers to go along with nine
rebounds. Tara Stepanchick (Sr./Lavelle, PA; North Schuylkill)
led the team with 10 rebounds while scoring six points.
