WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS CONFERENCE GAME TO SCRANTON
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted the
University of Scranton, Tuesday evening, in a Middle Atlantic
Freedom Conference match-up. The Warriors hung tough with the 17th
ranked team in the nation trailing by just four at the half, but
the Royals ultimately handed the host team a 71-65 loss. Lycoming
falls to 9-14 overall and 6-7 within the conference. Scranton
improves to 20-4 and 11-2.
Action was
back-and-forth early until the Royals turned a 9-0 run into a
19-10 lead midway through the period. The Warriors, however,
fought back, pulling within one before eventually heading into the
half down 35-31.
A 13-4 run to
open the second half, put Scranton ahead 13 and seemingly in
control. They extended their lead to as many as 17 before Lycoming
again fought back. The Warriors outscored the Royals 10-0 during a
three-minute span to close within five, but Scranton weathered the
storm and hung on for the six-point win.
Lyndy Levan
(Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport)
led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Emily DiMarco
(So./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) chipped in 13 points, including a
pair of three-pointers. Michelle Stine (Fr./Mill Hall, PA;
Central Mountain) led the squad with four assists, while
scoring six points.
Katie Dougherty
and Judy Flounders each had 12 points to lead the Royals in
scoring. AnneMarie Russo added nine rebounds and eight points for
Scranton.
Lycoming
will finish the regular-season on Saturday when they host DeSales
University. Tip-off for the game will be at 1 p.m. in Lamade
Gymnasium.
