WARRIOR WOMEN DOUBLE UP WILKES ON HARDWOOD; LEVAN SCORES 1,000TH POINT

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team opened up play in the Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference by hosting Wilkes University, Wednesday evening. The Warriors had their way for most of the game, ultimately doubling their opponent’s score en route to an 83-40 victory. The win improved Lycoming’s record to 4-3 overall and 1-0 within the conference. The Lady Colonels fell to 3-5 and 1-1.

The two teams played even through the opening 10 minutes of the game, but with nine minutes to play in the first half the Warriors went on a 16-0 run and never looked back. By halftime Lycoming had stretched their lead to 24.

The onslaught continued in the second half as the Warriors outscored Wilkes, 38-19 en route to a final score of 83-40. The highlight of the second half came when Lyndy LeVan (Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) connected on a jump shot with nine minutes to play that put her over 1,000 career points. LeVan became the fastest player to score 1,000 points in the history of the Lycoming women’s basketball program.

LeVan led all players with 25 points and eight rebounds in the game. Emily DiMarco (So./Voorhees, NJ; Eastern) added 14 points and Katie Santo (Sr./Scotch Plains, NJ; Union Catholic) hit three three-pointers for nine points. Laurie Scherer (Sr./Mahanoy City, PA; Mahanoy City) pulled down seven rebounds and scored four points.

The Warriors will travel to Delaware Valley College on Saturday for their next game. Their next home game will be on Monday, Dec. 17 when they host Mansfield University.
