WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted Fredonia State, Saturday evening in their final contest before conference plays begins. The Warriors battled back from a number of deficits but came up short in the end, losing 82-77 in overtime. The Blue Devils improved to 3-2 with the victory, while Lycoming fell to 3-3 overall.

The first half featured 10 lead changes and six tied scores as neither team could take control of the game. Both squads led by as many as five in the initial period, but each time the trailing team responding to close the gap. Fredonia carried the momentum into the half with a 36-31 lead behind 10 points by Kim Yorgy.

The Warriors opened the second half strong, fighting back to tie the score at 42 only to see the Blue Devils go on a 9-2 run and take their largest lead of the game. Lycoming came back again, however, tying the score at 57 with seven minutes to play. The back-and-forth battle continued right to the final buzzer with the score tied at 68.

In overtime, Laurie Scherer (Sr./Mahanoy City, PA; Mahanoy City) put back a lay-up to give the Warriors the initial lead, but it was all Fredonia the rest of the way. The Blue Devils went 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line in the extra period, while Lycoming could connect on just 3-of-10 shots. Mimi Williams accounted for eight points in overtime and Clare Crowley added five as Fredonia stole to win.

Lyndy LeVan (Jr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) led the Warriors with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Scherer added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots. Mindy Culp (Fr./New Coulmbia, PA; Milton) and Katie Santo (Sr./Scotch Plains, NJ; Union Catholic) each reached double figures in scoring as well with 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

Lycoming returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 5, when they host Wilkes University at 6 p.m. to kick off action in the Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference.
