Artz Leads
Warriors Past Hartwick, Widener
Senior
Middle Hitter Leads Lycoming Attack With 25 Kills
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa.) proved again why she was the 2005 Freedom Conference Player of the Year
during a dual match at the Lamade Gymnasium on Saturday. Artz
helped the Lady Warriors lift their record to 9-4 with wins over
Widener University and Hartwick College.
Lycoming looked
dominant in their showdown with Hartwick, sweeping them in three
sets (30-22, 30-22, 30-28). Artz notched 11 kills in the
contest on 18 attacks. Junior Danielle Busch (Claymont,
De.) added 18 assists. She recorded seven assists each in
sets one and three, and four in the second.
Artz and the
Lady Warriors had a little more trouble shutting down the
Pioneers. Lycoming dropped the first set of the match, 30-18,
despite nine assists from Busch. Freshman Hannah Stump (Mechanicsburg,
Pa.) led the Lady Warriors with four kills. However, senior
leadership proved crucial as Lycoming took the second match,
31-29, on five kills by Artz. Busch and freshman Abby Myers
(Shippensburg, Pa.) logged eight and seven assists
respectively.
The teams split
the next two matches, setting up a tiebreaking game five. Stump
provided three kills in the finale supporting a 15-10 Lady
Warrior Victory.
Lycoming
returns to action on Tuesday night as they play host to Wilkes
(3-13) in a Freedom Conference match-up. The game will begin at
7:00 pm. |
