Lady Warriors
Come Up Short in Season Opener
Strong Start Overshadowed by Hitting Woes
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Lycoming women’s volleyball came up short to Mount
Aloysius College on Tuesday evening, dropping its season opener
3-1 in Lamade Gymnasium. Although the Lady Warriors started
strong in winning the first game 30-24, the Mounties rebounded
with triumphs in the next three games 30-18, 30-23, and 30-25,
respectively.
Lycoming had a
rough night on the attack with 36 kills against 29 errors in 152
total attacks (.046 hitting percentage). Only two Warriors
managed to pull above a .100 hitting percentage, senior
Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa.) and freshman Abby Myers
(Shippensburg, Pa.).
Artz finished
the night with a team-best 19 kills to go along with a pair of
aces and four total blocks. Myers contributed five kills in her
first game as a Warrior.
Although
Lycoming recorded 10 aces, they also had a few problems with
serving, committing 12 serving errors and nine receiving errors
off Mountie services. Senior Cassie Kapson (Towanda, Pa.)
and freshman Hannah Stump (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) had three
aces apiece to lead the squad.
The blue and
gold defense showed signs of coming together at different points
during a match, a welcome sign this early in the season given
the amount of new faces. Artz proved adept away from the net as
well, leading the squad with 13 digs. Sophomore Heather
Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) added 12 pickups while
Myers notched 10.
The Warriors
are on the road for their next match on Wednesday, September 6,
when they travel to PSU-Altoona. Start time is set for 7:00p.m.
