Volleyball Splits at Messiah
Grantham, Pa. – Lycoming
College volleyball finished its regular season schedule by
splitting a pair of matches as part of a tri-match at Messiah
College on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fell to Marymount
University 3-1 (30-28, 30-22, 24-30, 30-19), but came back with
a big 3-2 victory over Messiah (23-30, 30-21, 30-18, 27-30,
15-8).
Against Marymount, Lycoming
came out strong in the first game with 15 kills and a .238
hitting percentage, but the Saints fought just as hard to win
that first set. The Warriors didn’t regroup until the third
game when they notched a six-point victory, but fell off-track
in game four with almost as many hitting errors (10) as they had
kills (12).
Lycoming was consistent
throughout all five games in victory over Messiah College by
scoring at least 23 points in each set. Middle hitter
Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) continued her bid
for a second straight player of the week award with her best
match of the season. The junior standout racked up personal
season-best 27 kills against only five errors in 67 attempts for
an impressive .328 hitting percentage. She added 12 digs and
five aces to her efforts.
Fellow middle hitter
Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley) sustained her march
towards the top of the Lycoming record books with an 18-kill
27-dig showing. She also blocked four attack attempts. Her 497
kills this season, the fourth-highest total in any one campaign
in Lycoming history, give her 1,505 for her career and rank her
third all-time behind Tracey Hracho (1996-1999; 1,650 kills).
Freshman Heather Frantz
(Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) added good support with
nine kills while fellow first year players Terra Erway
(Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) and Katie Pazamickas
(Sunbury, Pa./Lourdes Regional) added six apiece.
Senior libero Cara Kapson
(Towanda, Pa./Towanda) recorded a season-high 38 digs in
leading the defensive effort.
Lycoming is seeded third in
the upcoming Freedom Conference tournament. The Warriors travel
to DeSales University on Wednesday, November 2, for a 7:00 p.m.
first round match up against the second-seeded Bulldogs. |
