2005 Volleyball

Lady Warriors Win One at Susquehanna

Selinsgrove, Pa. – Lycoming volleyball came home victorious in one of three matches at the Susquehanna quad match on Saturday afternoon.  The Crusaders got the best of Lycoming in the first contest 3-1 (30-17, 30-27, 28-30, 30-25), but the Warriors blanked York College 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-28) in the second match.  Richard Stockton College defeated Lycoming 3-0 (30-23, 30-25, 30-27) in the final match.

Lycoming’s overall record now stands at 8-19 for the season.

Poor hitting plagued the Warriors in their two losses as they managed meager hitting percentages of .135 (57 kills, 32 errors, 184 attempts) against Susquehanna and .132 (39 kills, 21 errors, 136 attempts) versus Richard Stockton.

Lycoming picked up the pace against York, hammering out 42 kills against only 15 errors for a .252 team attack percentage.

Junior middle hitters Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley) and freshman outside hitter Katie Pazamickas (Sunbury, Pa./Lourdes Regional) carried the offense against York.  Kapson led the way with 15 kills and a .366 hitting percentage.  She also dug six attacks and recorded a pair of solo blocks.  Artz put together a 12 kill, nine dig performance.

Pazamickas, in perhaps her best match in blue and gold, registered a personal high 10 kills and a .241 hitting percentage.

Setter Danielle Busch (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Charter) averaged an even 10 assists per game with 30 on the match.

Lycoming’s next match will go a long way in determining the team’s position in the upcoming Freedom Conference playoffs.  The Warriors square off with Delaware Valley College on Tuesday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.  A victory could result in a third seeding in the tournament which would allow the Warriors to travel to the second seed rather than face the top seed in the first round.  A loss to the Aggies would relegate Lycoming to the fourth seeded position and an away match with the top seeded team.

The other teams that have qualified for the postseason are FDU-Florham, DeSales University, and the University of Scranton.  Seeding will be determined amongst these three teams and Lycoming.
