Warriors Let One Slip Away
Center Valley, Pa. –
Lycoming was up 2-0 after a pair of impressive games against
DeSales University on Wednesday night, but came out flat in the
final three stanzas to drop the first Freedom Conference match
of the season 3-2 in Center Valley. The Warriors won the first
two games by the same 30-24 total, but lost the final three
23-30, 22-30, and 7-15.
The loss drops Lycoming to
2-9 overall, 0-1 in the Freedom Conference.
Junior Hannah White
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) added a third prong
to Lycoming’s usual two-tiered attack in joining fellow
third-year players Lindsay Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley)
and Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) with strong
offensive matches. Artz recorded 20 kills and five digs to go
along with four block assists. Kapson bunched 15 kills with 10
digs with her own quartet of assisted blocks. White attacked
successfully on 10 occasions with three blocked shots.
Sophomore Danielle Busch
(Claymont, Del./Wilmington Charter) and freshman Jennifer
Snyder (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) shared the setting
duties. Snyder racked up 23 assists and 10 digs while Busch
helped set up 21 kills for her attacking teammates.
Freshman Heather Frantz
(Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) and senior Casey
Renninger (Pottsville, Pa./Blue Mountain) frustrated the
DeSales backline with excellent serving performances. Frantz
notched six service aces while Renninger recorded four.
Senior libero Cara Kapson
(Towanda, Pa./Towanda) led the defensive effort with a dozen
digs of Bulldog attacks.
Lycoming is next in action
this weekend as the Warriors host the 2005 Warrior Classic
Volleyball Tournament. Participating in the tourney will be
teams from Dickinson College, Marywood University, Penn College,
and Penn State-Behrend. Matches start on Friday afternoon at
4:00 p.m in Lamade Gymnasium. |
