Lycoming Comes Up Short at
LVC Tri-Match
Annville, Pa. – The Lycoming
volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during a tri-match at
Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon. LVC got the best
of the Warriors in one match 3-0 (30-21, 30-12, 30-16). The
University of Pitt-Johnstown came back from a 2-1 deficit to
defeat the Warriors in the other match 3-2 (17-30, 33-31, 30-32,
30-24, 16-14).
The losses drop Lycoming to
6-17 overall and 2-3 in the Freedom Conference.
Poor hitting plagued the
Warriors against Lebanon Valley. In three games, Lycoming
managed only 17 kills compared to 28 errors for a paltry -.096
hitting percentage.
The Warriors improved on
those numbers in the second match, hammering out 70 kills
compared to 33 errors, but did so in a gaudy 238 attack attempts
resulting in a .155 hitting percentage.
Middle hitters Lindsey
Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley) and Cassandra Kapson
(Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and outside hitter Heather Frantz
(Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) carried the offense
against UPJ as the trio combined for 187 attack attempts. Artz
nailed 22 kills in a season-high 80 attempts for a .150 attack
percentage. She also dug 12 Mountain Cat attempts. Kapson
belted a personal season-best 21 kills on .200 hitting while
Frantz tucked home 14 kills on a team-high .324 hitting
percentage.
Setter Danielle Busch
(Claymont, Del./Wilmington Charter) had a very productive
afternoon with 60 assists and 11 digs.
Senior libero Cara Kapson
(Towanda, Pa./Towanda) led the defensive effort with 21 digs
while fellow fourth-year player Casey Renninger (Pottsville,
Pa./Blue Mountain) kept UPJ off-balance with five service
aces.
Lycoming is next in action
Wednesday, October 19, as King’s College visits Williamsport for
a Freedom Conference match up. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
in Lamade Gymnasium. |
