Warriors Fall to PSU-Altoona
in Straight Sets
Williamsport,
Pa. – Home court has been unfriendly to the Warriors the past
two nights as Lycoming fell to 0-2 in Lamade Gymansium with a
straight set loss to PSU-Altoona on Wednesday night. The Lions
won the games 30-28, 30-21, and 30-28.
Lycoming (1-2)
was victimized by poor hitting for the second time in as many
matches after only registering a .173 attack percentage against
the Lions. Junior Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley)
led the Warriors with a modest 14 kills and a .357 hitting
percentage. Junior Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda
Area) added 10 kills to the effort.
Normally a
strength of the team, the Warriors’ defense let them down
tonight. Lycoming blocked only three Lion attempts (one solo,
four assists) and committed 11 serve reception errors.
After an
abysmal second game that saw the Warriors hit a paltry .032,
Lycoming reared back and enjoyed a relatively large lead halfway
through the third stanza. But miscues and PSU-Altoona’s attack
made eventually caught up with Lycoming and evaporated such an
advantage.
The Warriors
travel to Gettysburg College for the Battlefield Classic on
Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10. Lycoming is guaranteed
four games; two on Friday and two on Saturday. Friday’s first
round opponents are the University of Mary Washington at 3:00
p.m. and Richard Stockton College at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s
opponents and match times are dependent upon Friday’s results.
