Lady Warriors Step Up Game in Solid Victory

Williamsport, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team brought back memories of years past with its play on Wednesday evening as the Warriors defeated FDU-Florham 3-0 in Lamade Gymnasium.  Lycoming won the three games 30-23, 30-28, and 30-24.  The victory improves the Warriors’ record to 6-12 overall, 2-1 in the Freedom Conference.

Regardless of the statistical totals shown in the box score, the Warriors won this match with a full team effort.  Communication and energy not only on the court but from the bench were at a heightened level helping the team to trounce a tough league opponent.

Junior Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley) led the offense with 30 kills and a .473 hitting percentage.  She also dug 11 Devil attack attempts and blocked three shots.  Fellow third year middle hitter Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda)  was also strong at the net in registering 12 kills.

Setter Danielle Busch (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Charter) had her most productive game to date in dishing out a season-high 47 assists.  Freshman Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) kept the Devils off-balance with four aces to her credit.  She also added six kills to Lyco’s attack.

The Warrior defense was quite possibly the best it has been all season.  From front to back line, blue and gold jerseys seemed to be in the right position or reacted quickly enough to keep the ball in play.  Senior Cara Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) did her white libero’s jersey proud in leading Lycoming’s strong defensive performance with 12 digs.

The Warriors are next in action this Saturday, October 8, in a quad match at Waynesburg College.  Aside from Lycoming and Waynesburg, Thomas More College and Westminster College are scheduled to compete.
