Lady Warriors Fall in Conference Final

Scranton, Pa. – Lycoming College volleyball saw its season come to an end in the Freedom Conference finals as the University of Scranton bested the Warriors 3-1 (28-30, 30-24, 30-20, 30-22) on Saturday afternoon.

Poor hitting and fast starts by the Royals hampered the Warriors throughout the match.  Scranton jumped out to early leads in each of the final three games that proved insurmountable for Lycoming.  The Warriors did mount a strong comeback in the third set bringing the score to within four points at 26-22, but Scranton was able to hold on for victory.

Lycoming managed only a .071 hitting percentage for the match.  After opening with a 19 kill, .190 hitting clip in the first game, the Warriors managed only 38 kills against 35 errors for the remainder of the match.

Junior Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley), the newly selected Freedom Conference Player of the Year, attempted a career-high 83 attacks with 27 kills and 14 errors for a .157 hitting percentage.  She also dug 14 attempts and recorded four blocks.  Fellow third-year middle Cassandra Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) recorded 12 kills but made nine errors for a .061 attacking mark.  She also dug 11 tries and blocked a trio of attacks.

Seniors Cara Kapson (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and Casey Renninger (Pottsville, Pa./Blue Mountain) held down the back line with 21 and 11 digs, respectively.  Renninger also registered four service aces.  Setter Danielle Busch (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Charter) divvied out 42 assists on the evening.

With the victory, Scranton moves on to the NCAA Division III playoffs by virtue of the Freedom Conference champion automatic qualifier.
