VOLLEYBALL SET TO HOST WILKES IN SEMIFINAL MATCH
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team will
host Wilkes University, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, in
Lamade Gymnasium for a Freedom Conference semifinal playoff
match. The Warriors, 14-19 overall, earned the number-one seed
for the tournament by compiling a conference record of 5-1.
Their only loss was to the Colonels in five games. Wilkes, 15-13
overall, enters the tournament as the fourth seed after going
4-2 in the conference during the regular season.
Lycoming is
led by seniors Kelli Watson (East Freedom, Pa.; Central)
and Seneca Reilly (Athens, Pa.; Athens). Watson has
compiled 428 kills, 365 digs, and 91 blocks in 119 games this
season. Reilly is in her fourth season as the Warriors’ starting
setter. She competed the regular season with 980 assists, 171
digs, and 44 service aces. Fellow senior Jana Reitz
(Waynesboro, Pa.; Waynesboro) and sophomore Lindsey Artz
(Hegins, Pa.; Tri-Valley) are also key components to
Lycoming’s success. Reitz has led the defense with a team-high
485 digs, while also contributing 227 kills and 53 service aces.
Artz leads the squad with 537 kills, 164 blocks, and 63 service
aces during the regular season.
The Colonels
are led by junior Alicia Vieselmeyer. Vieselmeyer has 335 kills,
353 digs and 61 blocks. Junior Jillian Focht and senior Megan
Riley have 286 kills apiece. Focht also has 62 aces and 61
blocks, while Riley has contributed 322 digs and 39 aces.
Sophomore setter Nicole Hahn has handed out a school-record
1,075 assists, while also coming up with 328 digs and 38 aces.
The
Wilkes-Lycoming winner will advance to the Freedom Conference
Championship on Saturday, November 6, to face either the
number-two seed University of Scranton or the number-three seed
FDU-Florham. The winner of the Freedom Conference tournament
will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
Championship tournament.
Tickets for
Wednesday’s match can be purchased at the door and are priced $4
for adults, $3 for senior citizens, and $2 for students (with
ID). Children under the age of six are admitted free of charge. |
