VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ROYALS IN TITLE MATCH
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College volleyball team hosted the University of
Scranton, Saturday evening, for the Freedom Conference
championship. The Warriors fought back to force a fifth game after
dropping the first two games, but came up just short of completing
the comeback, falling 15-13 in the deciding game. The Royals won
the first two games by scores of 30-22 and 30-16. Lycoming won the
next two 30-25 and 30-28. Scranton improves to 21-13 on the season
and receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The Warriors have their season come to an end with a mark of
24-11.
Senior Layne
Haverstock (Hesston, Pa.; Huntingdon) led Lycoming with 22
kills and four blocks in the match. She also recorded six service
aces. Freshman Lindsay Artz (Hegins, Pa.; Tri-Valley) added
12 kills and three blocks. Senior Melanie McCoy (Bloomingburg,
Ohio; Bloomingburg) had a team-high 15 digs and Seneca
Reilly (Jr./Athens, Pa.; Athens) tallied 45 assists in the
contest.
For the Royals,
junior Marta DeLong (Downingtown, Pa.; Villa Maria Academy)
led the way with 19 kills and 12 digs. Kim McManus
(So./Cincinnati, Ohio; Mt. Notre Dame) added 14 kills and a
match-high seven aces. Krista Hylinski (Sr./Norristown, Pa.;
Kennedy-Kenrick) chipped in 10 kills, 12 digs, and 10 blocks. Cassie
Dyer (So./Lafayette Hill, Pa.; Mt. St. Joseph) recorded 50
assists in the match.
