WARRIOR VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS KING’S IN SEMIFINAL MATCH

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College volleyball team hosted defending champion King’s College, Wednesday evening, in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference tournament. The Warriors swept the Monarchs in just three games by scores of 30-20, 30-23, and 30-27. The victory improves Lycoming’s overall record to 24-10 on the season, while King’s falls to 19-12. The win also advances the Warriors to the Freedom Conference championship game for the second consecutive season.

Layne Haverstock (Sr./Hesston, Pa.; Huntingdon) led Lycoming with 16 kills in the match. She also added a match-high five service aces. Fellow senior Melanie McCoy (Bloomingburg, Ohio; Miami Trace) chipped in nine kills and eight digs. Defensively, Jana Reitz (Jr./Waynesboro, Pa.; Waynesboro) led the squad with 12 digs and Kelli Watson (Jr./East Freedom, Pa.; Central) led the Warriors with five blocks. Seneca Reilly (Jr./Athens, Pa.; Athens) distributed 35 assists in the contest.

For the Monarchs, Jessica McVey (Sr./Morton, Ill.; Morton) posted a match-high 18 kills to go along with nine digs. Annie German (Sr./Canandaigua, N.Y.; Canandaigua) added six kills and a team-high 10 digs. Lauren Foster (Sr./Levittown, N.Y.; Island Trees) and Jessica Luedeman (Fr./Rockville, Md.; Good Counsel) combined to record 28 assists – 17 and 11, respectively.

Lycoming will host the championship match on Saturday, November 8, at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium versus the University of Scranton. The Royals defeated FDU-Florham in five games in the other semifinal match. Scranton jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Devils rallied to win the next two games, forcing a fifth and deciding game. The Royals then outlasted FDU to claim the 26-24 victory in the game and the 3-2 victory in the match.
