LYCOMING VOLLEYBALL TO HOST KING’S COLLEGE IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College volleyball team (23-10, 6-0) will host King’s College (19-11, 4-2), Wednesday, November 5, at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium for a Freedom Conference playoff match. The Warriors finished the regular-season undefeated in conference play and are the top seed for the tournament, while the Monarchs enter the playoffs as the fourth seed. Number-two seed FDU-Florham will host the University of Scranton in the tournament’s other semifinal match. The winner of the Freedom Conference tournament will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs.

Lycoming is led by two-time all-conference player and former player of the year Layne Haverstock (Sr./Hesston, Pa.; Huntingdon). Haverstock averages a team- and conference-high 4.7 kills per game, while adding 3.5 digs and 0.8 blocks per game. She has also recorded a team-high 64 service aces this season. Complimenting Haverstock on the outside is junior Kelli Watson (East Freedom, Pa.; Central). Watson averages 3.2 kills and 2.2 digs per game.

Freshman Lindsey Artz (Hegins, Pa.; Tri-Valley) has also played a key role for the Warriors, leading the team in blocks with better than one per game, while also chipping in 2.5 kills per game and 51 aces during the season. Junior Seneca Reilly (Athens, Pa.; Athens) sets the table for the hitters, leading the conference in assists in 2003 with an average of nearly 11 per game. Reilly also has 62 aces on the season and averages 2.4 digs per game.

King’s, the defending conference champion, is led by Jessica McVey (Sr./Morton, Ill.; Morton) and Annie German (Sr./Canandaigua, N.Y.; Canandaigua Academy). McVey was player of the year in the Freedom Conference in 2002. She is averaging 4.25 kills and 5.9 digs per game this season and leads the conference with 103 service aces. German, also an all-conference player in 2002, leads the team with 4.41 kills per game and a hitting percentage of .272.

The Monarchs share setting responsibilities between Lauren Foster (Sr./Levittown, N.Y.; Island Trees) and Jessica Luedeman (Fr./Rockville, Md.; Good Counsel). Foster is averaging 7.2 assists per game and Luedeman is averaging 5.6 assists per game.

Lycoming and King’s met once during the regular-season with the Warriors topping the Monarchs in three straight games by scores of 30-28, 33-31, and 30-27. This semifinal pairing is a rematch of last season’s championship match, in which King’s defeated Lycoming in three games to claim the conference title.

Ticket prices for the event are: $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, and $2 for students. This is a Middle Atlantic Corporation event – only MAC passes will be accepted – all other spectators must pay admission.
