LYCOMING
VOLLEYBALL TO HOST KING’S COLLEGE IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE
SEMIFINALS
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College volleyball team (23-10, 6-0) will host
King’s College (19-11, 4-2), Wednesday, November 5, at 7 p.m. in
Lamade Gymnasium for a Freedom Conference playoff match. The
Warriors finished the regular-season undefeated in conference play
and are the top seed for the tournament, while the Monarchs enter
the playoffs as the fourth seed. Number-two seed FDU-Florham will
host the University of Scranton in the tournament’s other
semifinal match. The winner of the Freedom Conference tournament
will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs.
Lycoming is led
by two-time all-conference player and former player of the year Layne
Haverstock (Sr./Hesston, Pa.; Huntingdon). Haverstock averages
a team- and conference-high 4.7 kills per game, while adding 3.5
digs and 0.8 blocks per game. She has also recorded a team-high 64
service aces this season. Complimenting Haverstock on the outside
is junior Kelli Watson (East Freedom, Pa.; Central). Watson
averages 3.2 kills and 2.2 digs per game.
Freshman Lindsey
Artz (Hegins, Pa.; Tri-Valley) has also played a key role for
the Warriors, leading the team in blocks with better than one per
game, while also chipping in 2.5 kills per game and 51 aces during
the season. Junior Seneca Reilly (Athens, Pa.; Athens) sets
the table for the hitters, leading the conference in assists in
2003 with an average of nearly 11 per game. Reilly also has 62
aces on the season and averages 2.4 digs per game.
King’s, the
defending conference champion, is led by Jessica McVey
(Sr./Morton, Ill.; Morton) and Annie German
(Sr./Canandaigua, N.Y.; Canandaigua Academy). McVey was player
of the year in the Freedom Conference in 2002. She is averaging
4.25 kills and 5.9 digs per game this season and leads the
conference with 103 service aces. German, also an all-conference
player in 2002, leads the team with 4.41 kills per game and a
hitting percentage of .272.
The Monarchs
share setting responsibilities between Lauren Foster
(Sr./Levittown, N.Y.; Island Trees) and Jessica Luedeman
(Fr./Rockville, Md.; Good Counsel). Foster is averaging 7.2
assists per game and Luedeman is averaging 5.6 assists per game.
Lycoming and
King’s met once during the regular-season with the Warriors
topping the Monarchs in three straight games by scores of 30-28,
33-31, and 30-27. This semifinal pairing is a rematch of last
season’s championship match, in which King’s defeated Lycoming
in three games to claim the conference title.
Ticket
prices for the event are: $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens,
and $2 for students. This is a Middle Atlantic Corporation event
– only MAC passes will be accepted – all other spectators must
pay admission. |
