VOLLEYBALL UPSETS SCRANTON
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College volleyball team hosted the University of
Scranton, Wednesday evening, in an important MAC Freedom
Conference match-up. The Royals had knocked the Warriors form last
year’s conference playoffs and entered this match 2-0 in the
Freedom. Lycoming, however, came back from two games down to
defeat Scranton in five games by scores of 26-30, 27-30, 30-27,
30-25, and 15-4.
Layne
Haverstock (So./Hesston, PA; Huntingdon)
led the team with 24 kills in the match. Gretchen Hause
(Jr./Severna Park, MD; Severna Park) was tops on the squad
with 22 blocks. She also chipped in 10 kills. Seneca Reilly
(Fr./Athens, PA; Athens) recorded 52 assists on the night.
“This was a big
win for us,” said Lycoming Head Coach Tim McMahon. “We finally
played up to our potential. This gets us right back in the middle
of the playoff hunt. Hopefully we can build off this momentum and
carry it through the rest of the season.”
The Warriors
improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 within the conference. The Royals
fall to 9-7 and 2-1 with the loss. Lycoming travels to Elmira
College this weekend for a tri-match with Lebanon Valley and
Elmira.
