SWIMMERS SWEEP ELIZABETHTOWN
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
– The Lycoming College women’s and men’s swimming teams
hosted Middle Atlantic Conference rival Elizabethtown on Saturday.
Both Warrior squads were victorious, the women winning 120-85 and
the men winning 117-58.
In the women’s
meet, Andrea Rapach (So./Pittsford, NY; Mendon) led
Lycoming with a pair of first place finishes and a record-breaking
performance. Rapach won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of
0:25.15 to set a new school record. She also won the 100-yard
freestyle in a time of 0:56.75. Karen Turpin (Fr./West Windsor,
NJ; Princeton) also was a double winner, finishing first in
the 200-yard IM and 200-yard butterfly. Her time in the IM was
2:23.11 and in the butterfly was 2:23.29.
Lindsay Fahey
(Fr./Rochester, NY; Greece Athena)
and Jessica Amadore (Fr./Easton; Wilson) rounded out the
individual winners for the Lady Warriors. Fahey won the 1000-yard
freestyle, swimming an 11:47.90. Amadore swam a 2:24.43 to win the
200-yard backstroke. The women’s 400-yard medley relay team was
also a winner with a time of 4:19.25.
For the Warriors,
Chris DeZago (Fr./Sparkill, NY; Tappen Zee) was the major
performer, winning all three individual races he competed in.
DeZago led off his day with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle,
swimming a time of 10:40.18. He then came right back and won the
200-yard freestyle in 1:55.00. Finally, his time of 5:07.21 in the
500-yard freestyle also outpaced the field.
Other winners for
Lycoming’s men were: Ron Neil (Fr./Dallas; Dallas) in the
200-yard butterfly (2:13.89), A.J. LeViere (Jr./Pittsburgh;
Monsignor Bonner) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.88) and Matt
Thompson (So./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) in the 200-yard
breaststroke (2:30.28). The Warriors also won both relay events,
with a time of 3:52.35 in the 400-yard medley and 3:31.65 in the
400-yard freestyle.
“It was an
excellent meet for both teams,” said head coach Kristian Stedji-Larsen.
“Andrea Rapach’s performance in the 50-free was outstanding
and Chris DeZago’s endurance in winning all of his events was
spectacular.”
