LYCOMING SWIM TEAMS BREAK FOUR SCHOOL RECORDS ON FIRST DAY OF MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s and men’s swimming teams got off to a strong start at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships held at the University of Scranton, Feb. 16, 17 and 18. Through five events held on the opening day, the Lady Warriors posted 70 points to rank fifth in the 11-team field. Also, through five events, the Warriors are in third place with 78 points.

Setting the tone for Lycoming were four record-breaking performances. Andrea Rapach (So./Pittsford, NY; Mendon) set a new school mark in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a :24.98 in the preliminaries and then lowering her own mark to :24.92 while winning the event.

Both Lady Warrior relays also set new records. In the 200-yard freestyle relay Rapach, Katie Brennan (Jr./Stony Brook, NY; Ward Melville), Melissa Crandell (So./Queensbury, NY; Queensbury) and Jess Amadore (Fr./Easton; Wilson) swam a 1:43.44 to finish third and set the new Lycoming mark. In the 400-yard medley relay, it was Amadore, Kristen Campbell (So./Camp Hill; Cedar Cliff), Karen Turpin (Fr./West Windsor, NJ; Princeton) and Rapach setting the record at 4:15.64 and finishing in fifth place.

The final mark of the day was set by the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Rager (Jr./Camp Hill; Cumberland Valley), Dave Shiner (Sr./Camp Hill; Cumberland Valley), Greg Brown (Jr./Mechanicsburg; Cumberland Valley) and A.J. LeViere (Jr./Pittsburgh; Monsignor Bonner). The quartet swam a 1:29.57 to finish second while breaking the record.
