LYCOMING SWIMMING TEAMS COMPETE AGAINST ALFRED

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College swimming teams hosted Alfred University Wednesday afternoon. The women’s meet came down to the final relay but the Lady Warriors could not quite pull off the win as Alfred escaped with a 109-96 win. The men’s team was missing their top sprinter but managed to keep the meet tight, falling to the Saxon 118-70. 

Andrea Rapach (So./Pittsford, NY; Mendon) won two events to lead the way for Lycoming’s women’s team. Rapach won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle sprints with times of :25.70 and :57.40. Karen Turpin (Fr./West Windsor, NJ; Princeton) added another first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, outpacing the field with a time of 2:21.32. Lindsay Fahey (Fr./Rochester, NY; Greece Athena) rounded out the Lady Warriors individual winners finishing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:49.83.

The men’s team claimed three individual winners. Chris DeZago (Fr./Sparkill, NY; Tappen Zee) led things off by winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:44.96. Rob Neil (Fr./Dallas; Dallas) took first in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 2:13.00. Matt Thompson (So./Canisteo, NY; Canisteo Central) completed the trio in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.00.

“I’m very pleased with their times tonight,” said assistant coach Jerry Hammaker. “We just got back from our training trip to Florida and we worked them hard early this week, so I thought they would be pretty tired but they performed very well.”
