2005-06 Warrior Swimming

Warrior Swimming Falls to Scranton
Team Uses Opportunity to Qualify Others for MAC's

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Warrior swimmng had a rough go of it on Saturday, losing to the University of Scranton in both the men’s and women’s matches in Lycoming’s pool.  The Royals bested the men 121-80 and the women 145-60 in a MAC match up.

The Warriors, short several of their top swimmers for this meet, took advantage of the opportunity to qualify several other swimmers for the Middle Atlantic Conference championships coming up next month.  But a few of the Warrior regulars did have strong showings.  Senior Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, Conn./Windham) sprinted to a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.  Sykes also picked up second place showings in the 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay in a team effort with freshman Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), and juniors Kellie Cicconi (Odessa, N.Y./Odessa-Montour Central) and Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park).

Senior Steve Hawley (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity) picked up a top showing in the 50-yard freestyle, and teamed with senior Stuart Olsen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), sophomore Seth Urffer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), and freshman Brian Fausel (Burdet N.Y./Watkins Glen) to win the 400-yard medley relay.  Urffer picked up an individual victory in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Fausel nabbed a pair of second place finishes in the in the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle.

The Warriors are in action twice over the next week beginning with a trip to King’s University on Wednesday, January 18, at 6:00 p.m.  Then on Saturday, January 21, Lycoming will hold its annual Senior Night in a double-dual with FDU-Florham and Lebanon Valley.  Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Lycoming’s pool.
