Lycoming
Sweeps at Lebanon Valley
Swimmers Ready for
MAC Championships
ANNVILLE,
Pa.—The swim teams posted dual victories on Saturday over
Lebanon Valley in Lycoming’s last regular-season meet. The women
cruised to a 134-68 triumph, while the men squeaked out a 99-98
win.
After taking
the initial 200-meter medley relay, the Lady Warriors went on to
tally eight individual victories. Sophomore Milvana Ban
(Harrisburg, Pa.) grabbed first place in both the 800-meter
free and 200-meter IM events. Freshman Caroline LeHota
(Bellefonte, Pa.) found herself on the leader board twice,
winning both the 50-meter free and 100-meter backstroke. Senior
captains Amanda Scholwinski (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Jessica Gough (Berwick, Pa.) also contributed to the women’s
victory. Scholwinski finished first in the 100-meter free
and Gough placing second in two events.
“Our women
swam really well,” stated head coach Jerry Hammaker
following his team’s 134-68 success, “(Our teams) are looking
really good going into the MACs.”
Highlighted
by strong individual performances, the men’s team grounded the
Flying Dutchmen… but just barely. Freshman John Dougherty
(Mountain Top, Pa.) led the way for Lycoming, recording
individual wins in both the 100- and 200-meter freestyle events.
Senior Chris Dempsey (Newtown, Pa.) had a rewarding day.
In the tight meet, a false start disqualified the men in the
important medley relay. Dempsey made up for the miscue
with a close victory in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Lycoming is
now idle for nearly three weeks. The Middle Atlantic Conference
Championships begin on February 9 in Wilkes Barre. 25 Lycoming
swimmers will make the trip (16 women, 9 men), several in
multiple events. |
