Lycoming
Notches 11 Individual Victories
Warriors face
Elizabethtown and Washington & Jefferson
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The men’s and women’s swim teams showed the
meet-to-meet improvement that head coach Jerry Hammaker
is looking for when they visited Elizabethtown on Saturday.
Although the women lost to Washington & Jefferson, they defeated
Elizabethtown soundly. Meanwhile, the men fell by 20 points to
Washington & Jefferson, but finished only three points behind
Elizabethtown.
Of the 11
individual Warrior winners, only two were seniors. Chris
Dempsey (Newtown, PA) and Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, PA)
recorded wins in the 1000-yard freestyle, and 200-yard
breaststroke respectively. The majority of Lycoming’s victories
came from underclassmen, the start of a strong foundation for
the future. John Dougherty (Mountain Top, PA), Amy Bentz
(Elizabethtown, PA), Nichole Zoller (Colonia, NJ), Milvana Ban
(Harrisburg, PA), Austin Johnstone (Woodbine, MD), Brian Fausel
(Burdett, NY), Jessie Gallagher (Cheltenham, PA) and
Caroline LeHota (Bellefonte, PA), each recorded first-place
finishes for Lycoming.
In addition
to winning an impressive amount of individual events, the
Warriors were also able to record three relay wins. Zoller,
Gatehouse, Gallagher and senior Jess Gough (Berwick, PA)
succeeded in the women’s 400 medley relay, while a team
consisting of Zoller, Gough, Holly Miller (Lykens, PA)
and senior Amanda Scholwinski (Philadelphia, PA) won the
400 free relay. On the men’s side, Johnstone, Dougherty,
Brandon Good (Clearfield, PA) and Sean Houser
(Alexandria, VA) were victorious in the men’s 400 free
relay.
“I’m anxious
to see how things continue to improve with such young teams,”
stated coach Hammaker, “we have a busy week going to Susquehanna
tomorrow and then hosting Drew on Saturday.” The meet at
Susquehanna begins at 7:00 p.m., and the meet against Drew is
slated to start at 1:00 p.m. at Lamade Gymnasium. |
