Swimmers Drop a Pair to Albright
Coach Hammaker
Looking Forward to a Competitive Season
READING,
Pa.—Both the men’s and women’s swimming teams fell to standout
Albright squads on Saturday. Despite having several exceptional
individual performances, Lycoming was unable to pull out a team
victory. It was a tough draw, opening the season as a visitor
against last year’s women’s MAC Champion and the men’s runner
up. Nonetheless, Head Coach Jerry Hammaker was optimistic.
He
believes that this first meet will prove to be the catalyst for
continued improvement. “We just need to keep working hard and
it will pay off down the road,” quoted Hammaker. “I think the
(Albright) meet will put everyone in the right mindset for our
training and competition now.”
The women
notched Lycoming’s only first place finish as sophomore
Nichole Zoller (Colonia, NJ) won the 100-meter backstroke.
Jessie Gallagher’s (Cheltenham, PA) 100 fly was well
ahead of her 2005 performances, as she finished third. In
addition, the Lady Warriors other top three finishers included
Amanda Scholwinski (Philadelphia, PA), Jess Gough (Berwick,
PA), Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, PA), and Amy Bentz
(Elizabethtown, PA).
The men were
equally competitive as they listed three second place finishers
in Chris Dempsey (Newton, PA), Brian Fausel (Burdett, NY),
and Sean Houser (Alexandria, VA). Also finishing top
three for the Warriors were John Dougherty (Mountain Top,
Pa.), Brandon Good (Clearfield, PA), and Austin Johnstone
(Woodbine, MD).
Everyone can
see Lycoming’s new squad at their next meet on November 11 at
Elizabethtown. Lycoming’s first home meet is scheduled for
Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. against Drew. |
