Lady Warriors Trump Juniata to Win Fourth Straight

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Lycoming College women’s swimming, in the pool for the first time this season as a single squad, bested Juniata College 156.5-105.5 on Monday evening.  The Lady Warriors improve to 5-2 on the season, 4-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Both relays were kind to Lycoming as the Warriors picked up 28 points in winning and placing third in the 200-yard medley relay, and sweeping the top two positions in the meet-closing 200-yard freestyle relay.  Senior Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, Conn./Windham), junior Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa.), and freshmen Jessie Gallagher (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) and Sarah Hartshorne (Alburtis, Pa./Emmaus) teamed up for the medley relay win while freshmen Nichole Zoller (Colonia, N.J./Union Catholic) and Kirsten Synder (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), sophomore Amanda Guminski (Amble, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and junior Amanda Scholwinski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy) grabbed third place.

Hartshorne, Zoller, sophomore Holly Miller (Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin), and freshman Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) triumphed in the 200-yard free relay followed by the team of Scholwinski, freshman Stephanie Conrad (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area), and juniors Jessica Gough (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and Kellie Cicconi (Odessa, N.Y./Odessa-Montour Central) in second place.

Harahush earned a trio of individual victories.  After winning the 200-yard freestyle race, she and Hartshorne nabbed the top two places in the 50-yard freestyle.  Harahush immediately followed with a win in the 100-yard freestyle.

Gatehouse picked up a pair of individual wins with the first one coming in the 100-yard breaststroke.  She was joined Snyder in second place.  Gatehouse followed up later with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Sykes continued strong early season individual showing by touching first in the 100-yard backstroke, and Guminski and Gallagher snared the top two spots in the 200-yard butterfly.

This victory marked the final dual meet of the semester for either Warrior squad.  Lycoming swimming will be in action on December 1-3 at the Wooster Invitational held at the College of Wooster in Ohio.
