Warrior Split with Susquehanna
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. - The Lycoming College swimming squads welcomed the
Susquehanna University Crusaders to Williamsport on Tuesday
evening. The women’s squad performed well in a 117-94 victory,
but the men came up a bit short in falling 82-112.
On the women’s side, the Warriors claimed the top position in
eight events. Lycoming showed strength from the beginning in
the 200-yard medley relay with senior Kelly Sykes
(Willimantic, Conn./Windham), junior Amy Gatehouse
(Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), sophomore Amanda Guminski
(Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), and sophomore Holly Miller
(Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin) teaming up for a victory. Sykes
also claimed top honors in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard
backstroke while freshmen Kirsten Snyder (Reading Pa./Muhlenburg)
and Nichole Zoller (Colonia, N.J./Upper Catholic
Regional) earned respective second place times in the IM and
backstroke.
Freshman
Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) continued
her hot swimming with a top showing in the 50-yard freestyle.
Fellow first year swimmer Jessie Gallagher (Cheltenham,
Pa./Cheltenham) and Guminski took first and second
respectively in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Milvana Ban
(Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) claimed first place in the
500-yard freestyle.
For the men,
senior Steven Hawley (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity)
claimed two individual victories in the 50-yard freestyle and
100-yard backstroke. Brian Fausel (Burdett, N.Y./Watkins
Glen) earned the winning position in the 500-yard freestyle.
Lycoming is next in action on Saturday, November 19, as the
Warriors travel to Drew University. The meet is scheduled for
2:00 p.m.
