Warrior Split with Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College swimming squads welcomed the Susquehanna University Crusaders to Williamsport on Tuesday evening. The women’s squad performed well in a 117-94 victory, but the men came up a bit short in falling 82-112.

On the women’s side, the Warriors claimed the top position in eight events.  Lycoming showed strength from the beginning in the 200-yard medley relay with senior Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, Conn./Windham), junior Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), sophomore Amanda Guminski (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), and sophomore Holly Miller (Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin) teaming up for a victory.  Sykes also claimed top honors in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke while freshmen Kirsten Snyder (Reading Pa./Muhlenburg) and Nichole Zoller (Colonia, N.J./Upper Catholic Regional) earned respective second place times in the IM and backstroke.

Freshman Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) continued her hot swimming with a top showing in the 50-yard freestyle.  Fellow first year swimmer Jessie Gallagher (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) and Guminski took first and second respectively in the 100-yard butterfly.  Freshman Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle.

For the men, senior Steven Hawley (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity) claimed two individual victories in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.  Brian Fausel (Burdett, N.Y./Watkins Glen) earned the winning position in the 500-yard freestyle.

Lycoming is next in action on Saturday, November 19, as the Warriors travel to Drew University. The meet is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
