Swimming Falls to Scranton
Team Uses Opportunity to
Qualify Others for MAC's
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Warrior swimmng had a rough go of it on
Saturday, losing to the University of Scranton in both the men’s
and women’s matches in Lycoming’s pool.
The Royals bested the men 121-80 and the women 145-60 in a
MAC match up.
The
Warriors, short several of their top swimmers for this meet, took
advantage of the opportunity to qualify several other swimmers for
the Middle Atlantic Conference championships coming up next month.
But a few of the Warrior regulars did have strong showings.
Senior Kelly Sykes (Willimantic, Conn./Windham)
sprinted to a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sykes also picked up second place showings in the 100-yard
freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay in a team effort with
freshman Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), and
juniors Kellie Cicconi (Odessa, N.Y./Odessa-Montour Central)
and Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park).
Senior
Steve Hawley (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity) picked up a top
showing in the 50-yard freestyle, and teamed with senior Stuart
Olsen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston), sophomore Seth Urffer
(Allentown, Pa./Parkland), and freshman Brian Fausel (Burdet
N.Y./Watkins Glen) to win the 400-yard medley relay.
Urffer picked up an individual victory in the 200-yard
breaststroke, and Fausel nabbed a pair of second place finishes in
the in the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle.
The
Warriors are in action twice over the next week beginning with a
trip to King’s University on Wednesday, January 18, at 6:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, January 21, Lycoming will hold its annual
Senior Night in a double-dual with FDU-Florham and Lebanon Valley.
Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Lycoming’s pool.
