Harahush Sets School Record in
Double-Dual Split
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming
freshman swimmer Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville
Area) set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle as
the Warriors split a double-dual meet on both the men’s and
women’s sides on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Warriors defeated
Elizabethtown College 80-13 but fell to Washington & Jefferson
College 55-38. The Warrior men did the same in defeating E-Town
76-19 and falling to W&J by an identical 55-38 score.
Freshman swimmer swam the
100-yard freestyle in 54.87 seconds to claim the first Warrior
school record of the season. Andrea Rapach previously held the
record at 55.38 seconds. Harahush also finished second in the
50-yard freestyle and swam the anchor leg of Lycoming’s first
place 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Freshman Milvana Ban
(Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and junior Amy
Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) claimed the other
individual first place finishes for the Lady Warriors. Ban
touched first in the 500-yard freestyle, followed by fellow
first-year swimmer Amy Bentz (Elizabethtown,
Pa./Elizabethtown Area) in second, and Gatehouse claimed the
100-yard breaststroke.
Senior Steve Hawley (New
Cumberland, Pa./Trinity), junior Chris Dempsey (Newtown,
Pa./Notre Dame) and sophomore Seth Urffer (Allentown,
Pa./Parkland) earned first placed accolades on the men’s
side. Hawley nabbed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle while
Dempsey and Urffer were the top finishers of a pair of one-two
finishes in the 500-yard freesyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
Senior Brian Smith (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) followed
Dempsey in second place while senior Chris Mungo (Boonton,
N.J./Montville Township) came in just behind Urffer.
Lycoming swimming is next in
action on Tuesday, November 15, as the Warriors welcome
Susquehanna to Williamsport. Meet time is set for 7:00 p.m.
