Harahush Sets School Record in Double-Dual Split

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming freshman swimmer Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle as the Warriors split a double-dual meet on both the men’s and women’s sides on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors defeated Elizabethtown College 80-13 but fell to Washington & Jefferson College 55-38.  The Warrior men did the same in defeating E-Town 76-19 and falling to W&J by an identical 55-38 score.

Freshman swimmer swam the 100-yard freestyle in 54.87 seconds to claim the first Warrior school record of the season.  Andrea Rapach previously held the record at 55.38 seconds.  Harahush also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and swam the anchor leg of Lycoming’s first place 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Freshman Milvana Ban (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and junior Amy Gatehouse (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) claimed the other individual first place finishes for the Lady Warriors.  Ban touched first in the 500-yard freestyle, followed by fellow first-year swimmer Amy Bentz (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) in second, and Gatehouse claimed the 100-yard breaststroke.

Senior Steve Hawley (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity), junior Chris Dempsey (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame) and sophomore Seth Urffer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) earned first placed accolades on the men’s side.  Hawley nabbed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle while Dempsey and Urffer were the top finishers of a pair of one-two finishes in the 500-yard freesyle and the 100-yard backstroke.  Senior Brian Smith (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) followed Dempsey in second place while senior Chris Mungo (Boonton, N.J./Montville Township) came in just behind Urffer.

Lycoming swimming is next in action on Tuesday, November 15, as the Warriors welcome Susquehanna to Williamsport.  Meet time is set for 7:00 p.m.
