LYCOMING SWIMMERS TRAIN IN
CALIFORNIA
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The
Lycoming College swimming teams took advantage of the holiday
break to get a little extra training in prior to the start of
the second semester of classes. Thirty-six student-athletes and
four coaches traveled to Newport Beach, California, two days
after Christmas for 10 days of intense training – and a little
bit of fun, too.
The Warriors, under the direction
of head coach Jerry Hammaker, used the outdoor facilities
at the University of California – Irvine for 16 training
sessions over 10 days. The training was highlighted by the
squad’s traditional 100 x 100’s on New Years Day.
“The primary purpose of the trip
was obviously the training and the team put in some of the
toughest workouts I’ve ever given while here at Lycoming,” said
Hammaker. “The swimmers came through with flying colors.”
When not in the pool, the
Warriors took in some of the sights and experiences of southern
California, visiting Balboa Pier, Laguna Beach, and Downtown
Disneyland. The group also got to attend two tapings of the
Price Is Right that will air Thursday and Friday, February
3-4. Plan to tune in and see how two of Lycoming’s
student-athletes faired as contestants on the show!
“It’s always important to me to
have a trip that is not only training, but also one where we can
build some team unity through memorable experiences outside the
pool,” said Hammaker. “This trip was a success on both counts;
our swimmers had a great time together.”
The Warriors return to competition on
Saturday, January 15, when they travel to the University of
Scranton.
