Warriors Drop a Pair to Albright
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming
College swimming squads welcomed the defending Middle Atlantic
Conference champion Albright College Lions to Williamsport on
Saturday as an early season test of the Warriors mettle. Both
the men’s and women’s squads performed quite well, but neither
could scratch out a victory as the women fell 116-127 and the
men 94-146.
On the women’s side, the Warriors claimed the top three
positions in a pair of events. Senior Kelly Sykes
(Willimantic, Conn./Windham), freshman Jessie Gallagher
(Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham), and senior Ashley Klappholz
(Cranford, N.J./Cranford) pulled the trick in the 50-yard
butterfly. Sykes was joined by freshmen Milvana Ban
(Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Nichole Zoller (Colonia,
N.J./Upper Catholic Regional) as the top three finishers in
the 50-yard backstroke. Sykes and Zoller also nabbed first and
second place in the 100-yard backstroke.
Freshman Julie Harahush (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area)
won the women’s 50-yard free style, and swam the anchor leg on
Lycoming’s first place 200-yard free relay squad with freshman
Sarah Hartshorne (Alburtis, Pa./Emmaus), junior Amanda
Scholwinski (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Acad.), and
sophomore Holly Miller (Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin).
For the men, senior Steven Hawley (New Cumberland,
Pa./Trinity) claimed the only Warrior individual victories
in the 50-yard and 100-yard backstrokes. He swam the lead leg in
helping the Warriors sweep the top two spots in the 200-yard
free relay. He partnered with sophomore Seth Urffer
(Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and freshmen Brian Fausel
(Burdett, N.Y./Watkins Glen) and Brandon Good
(Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) to grab first place.
Seniors Kyle Drake (Tannersville, Pa./Pocono Mountain),
Chris Mungo (Boonton, N.J./Montville Township), Brett
Bausinger (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), and Dustin Kimble
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) finished second.
Lycoming is next in action on Saturday, November 12, as the
Warriors welcome Washington and Jefferson College and
Elizabethtown College to Williamsport. The tri-meet is scheduled
for 1:00 p.m.
