LYCOMING SWIMMERS COMPETE AT WOOSTER INVITATIONAL

WOOSTER, Ohio The Lycoming College swim teams competed in the Wooster College Invitational, over the weekend. The Warrior women finished third out of 11 teams and come home sporting three new school records. Lycoming’s men also swam well, finishing 6th out of 11 teams.

Rebecca Fox (Sr./Middletown, N.J.; Middletown South) highlighted the meet by breaking a pair of school records and placing in the top four in three different events. Fox set new school marks in the 200 and 400 IMs. She placed third with a time of 2:14.66 in the 200 IM and placed fourth with a time of 4:49.24 in the 400 IM. Fox also claimed a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.

Steph Kudrick (Fr./Coudersport, Pa.; Coudersport) set the other new school record, swimming a 1:08.79 in the 100 breaststroke to place third in the event. She also placed fifth in the 200 breast and eighth in the 200 IM.

Kelly Sykes (Jr./Willimantic, Conn.; Windham), Amy Gatehouse (So./Bethel Park, Pa.; Bethel Park), and Jen Konecni (So./Highland Mills, N.Y.; Monroe Woodbury) each placed among the top-10 in two individual events. Sykes won the 100 backstroke and placed eighth in the 50 freestyle. Gatehouse came in fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Konecni placed sixth in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 200 butterfly.

Other top-10 finishers for the Warrior women, included: Erin Horsley (Sr./Allegany, N.Y.; Allegany Central) – 7th in the 200 butterfly; Erin Patrick (Sr./Media, Pa.; Penncrest) – 8th in the 100 freestyle; Karissa Brown (Sr./Chemung, N.Y.; Waverly) – 9th in the 100 backstroke; and Michelle Tracey (Fr./Maplewood, N.J.; Mt. St. Mary Academy) – 10th in the 200 IM.

Steve Hawley (Jr./New Cumberland, Pa.; Trinity) and Josh Hogan (Sr./Waverly, N.Y.; Waverly) led the Lycoming men’s team by each placing in the top-10 in three different individual events. Hawley placed second in the 50 freestyle and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke and a ninth-place finish in the 100 freestyle. Hogan came in sixth in the 100 backstroke, eighth in the 100 butterfly, and 10th in the 200 backstroke.

Chris Dempsey (So./Newtown, Pa.; Notre Dame) contributed a sixth-place in the 1650 freestyle and a ninth-place in the 400 IM. Stuart Olsen (Jr./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston) tallied a pair of 10th-place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyles. Jeff Swatkins (Jr./Guilford, Conn.; Xavier) added a ninth-place finish in the 200 butterfly.

“I’m very happy with how both teams performed,” said Warrior head coach Jerry Hammaker. “This was an excellent meet for us. We accomplished exactly what we needed to, I really couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Lycoming’s women will compete again on Thursday, December 9, when they host Juniata College for a dual meet. The meet will begin at 7 p.m.
