LYCOMING SWIM TEAMS SWEEP SUSQUEHANNA

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College swimming teams traveled to Susquehanna University, Wednesday evening, for a non-conference meet. Both Warrior teams were victorious, the women winning 125-74 and the men 114-91.

Senior Rebecca Fox (Middletown, N.J.; Middletown South) led the Lycoming women with three individual victories. Fox was fastest in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles and the 200 IM. Kelly Sykes (Jr./Willimantic, Conn.; Windham) added a pair of first-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 back. Jen Konecni (So./Highland Mills, N.Y.; Monroe Woodbury) won the 100 butterfly and Steph Kudrick (Fr./Coudersport, Pa. Coudersport) won the 100 breaststroke. The Warriors also claimed a win in the 200 medley relay with the team of Sykes, Kudrick, Konecni, and Jessica Gough (So./Berwick, Pa.; Berwick).

For the men, Steve Hawley (Jr./New Cumberland, Pa.; Trinity) won multiple individual events, coming in first in the 50 and 100 frees. Jeff Swatkins (Jr./Guilford, Conn.; Xavier) and Seth Urffer (Fr./Allentown, Pa.; Parkland) also claimed individual events, winning the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, respectively. Stuart Olsen (Jr./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston), Andrew Shurer (So./Clearfield, Pa.; Clearfield), Swatkins, and Hawley teamed up to add a victory in the 200 free relay.

“Tonight was a nice start to our dual-meet season,” said head coach Jerry Hammaker. “It was really a team-effort with our second through fourth-place finishes making the difference in the meet. Steve Hawley and Kelly Sykes had very good performances with some excellent times, and Rebecca Fox and our men’s breaststrokers picked up some important points for us.”

Lycoming’s men will compete again on Tuesday, November 2, when they travel to Bloomsburg University. Both squads will travel to Albright College on Saturday, November 6.
