WARRIOR SWIM TEAMS SWEEP DREW
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s and
men’s swimming teams swept Drew University in a dual meet,
Saturday afternoon. The Warrior women topped the Rangers 140-99,
while the men won 140-65. Lycoming’s women are now 4-2 on the
season. The Warrior men are 4-3.
Kelly
Sykes (Jr./Willimantic, Conn.; Windham)
won both the 100 and 200 backstrokes to lead the women’s team.
She also had the fastest time in the 100 butterfly, but
exhibitioned the event. Jessica Gough (So./Berwick, Pa.;
Berwick) also won two events, finishing first in the 50 and
100 freestyles. Rebecca Fox (Sr./Middletown, N.J. Middletown
South) won the 1000 free and Erin Patrick (Sr./Media,
Pa.; Penncrest) won the 200 free. Fox and Patrick also had
top times in exhibition events.
Other
winners for Lycoming’s women included: Amy Gatehouse
(So./Bethel Park, Pa.; Bethel Park) in the 100 breaststroke,
Erin Horsley (Sr./Allegany, N.Y.; Allegany Central) in
the 200 butterfly, and Steph Kudrick (Fr./Coudersport, Pa.;
Coudersport) in the 200 breaststroke.
For the men,
Chris Dempsey (So./Newtown, Pa.; Notre Dame) was the top
performer winning the 1000 free and 200 fly, while also coming
in first during an exhibition of the 400 IM. Josh Hogan
(Sr./Waverly, N.Y.; Waverly), Chris Mungo (Jr./Boonton,
N.J.; Montville Twp.), and Steve Hawley (Jr./New
Cumberland, Pa.; Trinity) each won two events. Hogan won the
100 and 200 backs, Mungo won the 100 and 200 breasts, and Hawley
won the 50 and 100 frees. Jeff Swatkins (Jr./Guilford, Conn.;
Xavier) added a victory in the 200 free, while also turning
in the top time in the 100 fly as an exhibition. Stuart Olsen
(Jr./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston) exhibitioned the 500 free and
was the first to finish.
“Overall,
this was a good meet for us. We had some strong swims and nice
times for this time of the year,” said Warrior head coach
Jerry Hammaker. “We’ll take a little break for Thanksgiving
and then come back and work hard for the invitational at Wooster
the beginning of December.” |
