WARRIOR
SWIMMERS SPLIT DUAL MEET WITH SCRANTON
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College swimming teams hosted
the University of Scranton, Saturday afternoon, for a dual meet.
The Warrior men defeated the Royals 117-79, while the Warrior
women fell to the Lady Royals 85-115. Lycoming’s men are now 6-2
in dual meets this season. The women are 4-3.
Nathan
DeCapria (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Central Mountain)
and Stuart Olsen (So./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston) led the
Warriors with two individual victories each. DeCapria won the 50
free with a time of 21.55 seconds and the 100 free in 48.79
seconds. Olsen was the top finisher in the 200 free in 1:53.57
and in the 500 free with a time of 5:14.76. Three other swimmers
were event winners for Lycoming’s men: Chris Dempsey
(Fr./Newtown, Pa.; Notre Dame) won the 100 free in 10:56.50;
Jeff Swatkins (So./Guilford, Conn.; Xavier) won the 200
IM in 2:06.95; and Josh Hogan (Jr./Waverly, N.Y.; Waverly)
won the 200 backstroke in 2:03.83. The Warrior men also won the
200-medley relay.
For the
women’s team, Rebecca Fox (Jr./Middletown, N.J.; Middletown
South) was the top performer, winning two individual events.
She won the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.40 and the 200
breaststroke with a time of 2:32.39. Lycoming’s women also won
both the 200-medley and 200-free relays.
“Overall
this was a strong meet for us,” said Warrior head coach Jerry
Hammaker. “The guys swam a terrific meet and the women turned in
some very good times as well. Both teams qualified more swimmers
for the conference meet and are in good position to lower some
times over the next few weeks for better seeding.”
Lycoming
will compete in the pool again on Wednesday, January 21, at
King’s College.
