WARRIOR SWIMMERS SPLIT DUAL MEET WITH SCRANTON

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College swimming teams hosted the University of Scranton, Saturday afternoon, for a dual meet. The Warrior men defeated the Royals 117-79, while the Warrior women fell to the Lady Royals 85-115. Lycoming’s men are now 6-2 in dual meets this season. The women are 4-3.

Nathan DeCapria (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Central Mountain) and Stuart Olsen (So./Evanston, Ill.; Evanston) led the Warriors with two individual victories each. DeCapria won the 50 free with a time of 21.55 seconds and the 100 free in 48.79 seconds. Olsen was the top finisher in the 200 free in 1:53.57 and in the 500 free with a time of 5:14.76. Three other swimmers were event winners for Lycoming’s men: Chris Dempsey (Fr./Newtown, Pa.; Notre Dame) won the 100 free in 10:56.50; Jeff Swatkins (So./Guilford, Conn.; Xavier) won the 200 IM in 2:06.95; and Josh Hogan (Jr./Waverly, N.Y.; Waverly) won the 200 backstroke in 2:03.83. The Warrior men also won the 200-medley relay.

For the women’s team, Rebecca Fox (Jr./Middletown, N.J.; Middletown South) was the top performer, winning two individual events. She won the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.40 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.39. Lycoming’s women also won both the 200-medley and 200-free relays.

“Overall this was a strong meet for us,” said Warrior head coach Jerry Hammaker. “The guys swam a terrific meet and the women turned in some very good times as well. Both teams qualified more swimmers for the conference meet and are in good position to lower some times over the next few weeks for better seeding.”

Lycoming will compete in the pool again on Wednesday, January 21, at King’s College.
