SWIMMERS FINISH SECOND DAY OF COMPETITION AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. The Lycoming College swimming teams held
their ground, Saturday morning and evening, during the second
day of competition at the Middle Atlantic Conference
championships. The Warrior men remained in third place in the
team standings with 317 points behind Albright (570.5) and
Widener (448.5). Lycomings women kept pace in fifth place with
272 points behind Scranton (490), Albright (404), Widener (297),
and Juniata (291.5). The Warriors also claimed another
individual conference champion and broke four more school
records.
Steve Hawley
(So./New Cumberland, Pa.; Trinity)
paced the Warrior men, winning his second individual conference
title in as many days. Hawley won the 100-yard backstroke with a
time of 54.07 seconds. Jeff Swatkins (So./Guilford, Conn.;
Xavier) added a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly
with a time of 54.16 seconds. Chris Dempsey (Fr./Newtown,
Pa.; Notre Dame) set a new school record in the 400 IM of
4:25.75 good for fourth place; and Chris Mungo
(So./Boonton, N.J.; Montville Twp.) set a new school mark in
the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.79, finishing in seventh
place. Both men's relays also set new school records for
Lycoming.
The Warrior
women were led by Kelly Sykes (So./Willimantic, Conn.;
Windham) who placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a
time of 1:02.89. Rebecca Fox (Jr./Middletown, Pa.; Middletown
South) added a fourth-place finish in the 400 IM with a mark
of 4:53.49.
Competition
resumes at 10 a.m. on Sunday with the finals slated to begin at
5 p.m.
