LYCOMING SWIMMERS FINISH STRONG AT WOOSTER INVITATIONAL

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Lycoming College swim teams finished strong during the final day of competition at the College of Wooster Invitational with five different student-athletes placing in the top-10 in individual events.

Nathan DeCapria (So./Jersey Shore, Pa.; Central Mountain) led the way by winning his second event of the three-day invitational. DeCapria won the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.14 seconds. He had also won the 50 free during the first day of competition.

Rebecca Fox (Jr./Middletown, N.J.; Middletown South) and Amy Gatehouse (Fr./Bethel Park, Pa.; Bethel Park) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke. Fox finished with a time of 2:34.37 and Gatehouse finished in 2:37.73. Jeff Swatkins (So./Guilford, Conn.; Xavier) added a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, while also setting a new school record with a time of 2:05.06. The previous record was set by Chris Bloch in 1985. Chris Mungo (So./Boonton, N.J.; Montville Twp.) also placed in the 200 butterfly, coming in ninth with a time of 2:12.03.

“I’m very pleased with how we performed this weekend,” said Warrior head coach Jerry Hammaker. “Due to the beginning of finals week, we only traveled with six men and eight women, so we were not concerned with the team scores. But the swimmers turned in some really good times, including a lot of personal bests, a new school record, and an improved national qualifying time. Overall, I think the experience of this level of competition and the preliminary-final format really sets us up to do well at the conference championships in February.”
