DECAPRIA AND HAWLEY COMPETE IN LAST CHANCE SWIM MEET

CLEVELAND, OH – Lycoming College swimmers Nathan DeCapria (Fr./Jersey Shore, PA; Central Mountain) and Steve Hawley (Fr./New Cumberland, PA; Trinity) traveled to Case Western Reserve University, Saturday afternoon, to compete in the Veale Classic. The meet was a “last chance” opportunity for swimmers to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

DeCapria had already qualified in the 50 free, but hoped to improve his seeding time at the meet and also qualify in the 100 free. While he did not swim a qualifying time in the 100, he did improve his 50 time to :21.21 breaking his own school record in the process. DeCapria’s 100 time of :47.78 also improved a school record he broke earlier this season.

Hawley was unable to qualify for the national meet but did place second in the 50 free behind only DeCapria.

DeCapria will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, the weekend of March 20-23 for the national championships. He will be the first male swimmer from Lycoming to receive an invite to the meet and the first Warrior swimmer overall since Eileen Mackson in 1983.
